Mayor Michelle Wu Endorses Latoya Gayle for State Senate

Boston, MA – Mayor Michelle Wu endorsed Latoya Gayle for State Senate today, announcing her support during a press conference in Dorchester.

Gayle is a mother of four, a community advocate, and a lifelong public servant running to represent the 1st Suffolk District in the State Senate. Rooted in the St. Marks neighborhood of Dorchester, Gayle has spent her career fighting for Boston families through advocacy, education, and community engagement.

She currently serves as the Senior Director of Advocacy and Family Partnerships at Neighborhood Villages, where she works to advance policies that support children and families. Previously, she founded and led Boston School Finder and co-founded Phenomenal Moms to expand educational and economic opportunities for families of color. She serves on the board of the Massachusetts Early Childhood Funder Collaborative Community Advisory Committee.

“Latoya Gayle has spent her career fighting for working families in Boston to have every opportunity to thrive,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “Residents of the 1st Suffolk District deserve a State Senator who understands the challenges facing our communities and brings an urgency to find solutions. As a mom and community leader, Latoya has stood with our families even when state legislators have not. Latoya will be a powerful, principled voice for the 1st Suffolk District and I’m proud to endorse her for the State Senate.”

“I’m honored to have Mayor Wu’s support as our campaign continues to build momentum,” said Latoya Gayle, Candidate for Massachusetts State Senate, 1st Suffolk. “Mayor Wu has demonstrated that when you show up for communities and lead with courage, you can deliver real results. That’s the approach I’ve taken throughout my career as an advocate, and it’s the approach I’ll bring to the State Senate. The people of the 1st Suffolk deserve a senator who is accessible, accountable, and focused on the challenges families are facing every day, from housing and childcare costs to creating opportunity and strengthening our communities.”

Wu joins a host of Boston leaders, unions, and community advocates who have endorsed Gayle’s campaign for State Senate, including AFSCME Council 93 Boston Presidents’ Committee, SEIU 32BJ, and community leaders such as Dorchester's Ann Walsh, Ms. Shirley Jones, Kate Warren Barnes, and Rachele Gardner, South Boston's Steve Hollinger, and the South End's Ben and Jane Siegel.
